Introduced this August at MAGIE and featured at both Ohio and Pennsylvania’s Field Days, the GVM Double Duty Twin Chain is sure to be one of the most sought-after spreaders this fall. Today, most fertilizer spreaders spread material at a standard rate and a preset width, regardless of the multiple soil types that commonly exist in any given field. The Double Duty Twin Chain will allow users to use precisely the right amount of nutrients as determined by the prescription map in the cab, which could include shutting off up to three spreading sections, narrowing the pattern, or shutting of half of the spread pattern. The Double Duty Twin Chain spreader was designed to help facilitate responsible nutrient stewardship/management, commonly called the 4R’s: ensure the right fertilizer source, at the right rate, at the right time, and in the right place to increase profitability, decrease nutrient losses, and protect our waters and air. The Double Duty Twin Chain spreader offers up to four-section swath width control with simplicity and precision. The Double Duty Twin Chain features two bar chains with individual shutoff and air-actuated funnel control to precisely direct product placement. The addition of section control will help to reduce the risk of contaminating waterways and will reduce the risk of over application on point rows and boundaries. The additional controls will also help to reduce the total amounts of materials required during application. Offering up to a 120-foot* spread width, the Double Duty Twin Chain offers on-the-go adjustability and will allow users to vary their spreading rates and widths. The Double Duty Twin Chain uses automatic boom section control to determine spreading sections and swath width control happens quickly and automatically. Designed to work with any ISO virtual terminal controllers including Ag Leader, Raven, John Deere and Case, the system is comfortable and simple for all applicators to utilize. GVM has always achieved their consistently flat spread pattern due to the pinpoint control of material placement as it drops onto the spinner discs. The Double Duty Twin Chain utilizes this same technology, with the understanding that moving the vanes of the funnel will alter the spread pattern, but must happen quickly, mechanically, and simply to be effective. More complicated swath width systems can be difficult for users to test, set-up, and maintain, so GVM’s emphasis in developing the Double Duty Twin Chain was on mechanical simplicity. Utilizing pneumatics the GVM funnel can quickly change positions to adjust the spread pattern. The Double Duty Twin Chain mounts exclusively on the mechanical, allwheel- drive Prowler chassis which offers the industry’s best-in-class flotation. The Prowler chassis is one of the only true all-wheel-drive mechanical combo (liquid and dry) applicators on the market. – Erin Hutchison, International Sales & Marketing Manager
