In June 2016, we answered the call to help our fellow West Virginians during what can only be described as catastrophic, deadly flash flooding. In the weeks that followed, the school mobilized faculty, residents, students and staff in concert with partnering institutions like Cabell Huntington Hospital to deploy to hard-hit Greenbrier County where our team logged more than 1,000 volunteer hours. There, they provided wound assessment and treatment, immunizations and replaced lost prescriptions. Listening. Empathizing. Supporting. The intangible work? Training compassionate doctors is part of what we do. We are working together to provide health and medical care wherever and whenever it’s needed. Those were the tangible tasks.
